Being fit sure has its advantages. Besides the fact that it gets your heart rate moving, endorphins pumping and metabolism firing, it also makes you look and feel good. In motivating yourself to workout you can simply start with these two angles, is it more important to look good and feel good or do you love the physiological benefits.
Once you answer these questions for yourself you can leverage your life to workout. Just take the opposite of what you like about working out and realize that that's what you'll get if you don't exercise. It's a simple exercise but rudimentary in the ability to motivate yourself. So for example if you love working out because it makes you feel exhilarated, you can say simply that if you don't work out you will feel horrible. The pain outweighs the pleasure and you motivate yourself to workout.
The next way to motivate yourself is to use fitness music. Fitness music is really any Cd that makes you feel good, pushes you and engages you. Let's go over these three qualities of fitness music in detail.
1) Feel good music is crucial simply because there have been studies that prove what you listen to has a mental effect on your outlook on life. If you're listening to System of A Down's "Toxicity" you may be feeling pumped, but your overall outlook will more than likely reflect the anger and frustrated tone of the song and its writers. On the flipside listening to a song like "Set Yourself Free" by Shaka Buku will affect your outlook with an empowered outlook similar to the song and its writer Chad Scott.
2) A push is necessary and typically means that a higher bpm or beats per minutes is used in the song. I recommend using Fitness CD like Shaka Buku's Move N Groove, which uses mostly higher bpm songs, but also has a few medium tempo songs for breaks when you are working out. If you really want to burn fat, it's also been proven that interval training works the best. This is a process of going moderate speed then going much faster and then rotating between the two, which is what Shaka Buku's Move N Groove does.
3) Stay engaged. This is also crucial as there are so many distractions in a gym or outdoors and you want an exercise cd that really keeps you locked in and focused. Once again my recommendation is Move N Groove
